Roadside Anthems

2022 Bachelors of Fine Arts Exhibition

Roadside Anthems is composed of a few series I've been working on over the last three years; The Postcard Series, The Plein Air Series, and Monumental Fractures. Within each series, the paintings found correlate in creation and subject and as a whole the composition of the entire showcase harmonizes to display a large collection of my work.

I was introduced to a form of overglaze on ceramic ware, traditionally called china painting. Experiencing the tiny vials of lead-based paint, the smell of french fat oil, and finally watching the paint being applied to glazed ceramic surfaces; I was completely taken by the medium. Since that moment I have continued to include painting in my life and worked to create this show.

The Music that Made

Roadside Anthems

As I planned and painted, many of the paintings were based on a detour to either a literal roadside or just as a metaphorical roadside. These landscape paintings could just exist as they are, some kind of roadside attraction where for a moment they are looked at in wonder or purely for observation. The decision to add music was to add a new element to the traditional gallery viewing and to act as a roadtrip playlist through each landscape.

All of the music used is owned by the respective artists who wrote these songs and produced them. In turn, their music inspired me create all the painted works you will see.

Below are two linked playlists with selected songs for the works of Roadside Anthems. You may use the Spotify or Youtube links to the playlists or continue below to play the songs directly from the Youtube playlist on the page.
